Peter is a retired successful businessman in the Grand Rapids area, who currently serves as the Impact Burundi Board Chair. Peter is a passionate advocate for serving vulnerable people in his local and the international community. He loves spending his free time supporting his church, his family members, and cheering for the underdog
Deb is an account manager for her husband's excavating company. She currently serves as an Account Services Manager on the Impact Burundi Board. She loves spending time with her family and loved ones. She spends her free time serving at her local food pantry and her church. Deb cheers and cares for the underdog. She has profound compassion for those less fortunate and wants them to succeed.
Driven by his faith and love to serve God, Libere is a Burundi native, who loves investing in other peoples’ lives. He founded Impact Burundi out of the need to create employment, eradicate hunger and gender inequality, promote health, and encourage conflict resolution and currently, serves as the Executive Director of Impact Burundi. Libere spends his free time serving his church and with his wife and three beautiful daughters.
William (Bill) Padding
William Padding is a clinical social worker in private practice for 30 years, specializing in treatment intervention with individuals who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other family conflict issues, ie divorce, death, substance abuse. In addition to his clinical practice, he has served as an elder and deacon with his church, is chairman of the advisory board for Safe Church Ministry, an abuse prevention and response ministry of the CRC, and has been actively involved for the past 10 years in assisting refugees stabilize and acclimate to life in the United States in cooperation with his church. Bill has been involved with the mission of IB since its inception, joining the Advisory Board in 2016.
Dr. Phil Smart is an international development expert with more than 35 years of experience as a missionary, pastor, facilitator, and business manager. At World Renew International, Phil provides strategy for the engagement of donors with the organization’s mission. Prior to World Renew international, Phil worked as an International Business Manager for eight years. As a facilitator for the John Maxwell EQUIP Institute, Phil has taught leadership seminars in seven countries and worked in many more.
Edward became involved in missions as a young adult and has been active in various missions., both domestic and foreign, as a board member and volunteer. Edward joined the Impact Burundi board because of his love to serve people and make an impact in achieving goals for the people of Burundi. He loves to serve and help people that need it the most. These experiences have had a huge impact on his life. I feel like God has called me to use my talents, experiences, and resources to that end.
Bev Abma is a Canadian-born long-term overseas development worker. Long before she became a Board Trustee for Impact Burundi, Bev worked as a registered nurse and a midwife in Alberta, Canada. She has many years of experience working alongside various humanitarian efforts and nonprofit organizations around the world, and has also founded the Foods Resource Bank, now known as Growing Hope Globally. Bev joined the Impact Burundi team in 2020, and she also now serves on the boards of FRB (emerita) and American Friends of ARI (AFARI) in addition to consulting and leading vision groups to various countries.
Devin joined the Impact Burundi team in 2020 as a Marketing Assistant to oversee social media posting and manage the website. He graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2019 with a degree in multimedia journalism and worked as a breaking news reporter for the better part of a year before joining Impact Burundi.
