Impact Burundi’s local partner, Burundi Development Services, has started a demonstration plot. The purpose is twofold: teach participants agriculture techniques and generate income for the organization.
The project started with 8 pigs which have already produced 11 piglets and 10 chickens with 17 chicks. Eggs are sold in the local market for $.20 US/each.
A shaded and ventilated shelter has been built for the mushrooms; yields have been significant.
The first three harvests have produced about 240 pounds of mushrooms which were sold locally for about $2.50 US/pound.
The community mobilizer is managing the demonstration farm with help from community members.
